Here we have it – the very first copy of The Heart of Stone, which got delivered before Christmas, to my utter delight. And, I am completely thrilled with this. Shawn King has done a fantastic job with the cover. He’s a brilliant artist. It was so much fun to work with him,.
The maps are looking good, if I don’t say so myself. That’s right, two maps – one for the world and one for the country the story is based in.
You might be wondering why I’m on a beach – aside from the fact it looks pretty, and it’s a lovely morning (albeit a very cold morning), this is similar to a scene at the start of the book, where Task arrives on a stony beach like this one.

There are 75 days until the launch. 30th of March, Task will be hitting the shelves. I really can’t wait to share it with you. This book is a real landmark book for me. Not only it is my first standalone, it’s also my eighth novel. It’s also the first time I’ve written something like this – something with possibly a deeper meaning, and slightly more of a literary edge, than just hacking and slashing.
In any case, I’m really pleased with this book. I fell in love with Task while writing his story. Some of it thoroughly kicked my arse in terms of improving my writing style, and learning how, and what I like, to write.
From what Mr Editor, my beta readers, and early readers have said, this could my best book yet, so I cannot wait to share it with you.
